The brief required a finance lead who could operate under Indonesia’s OJK rules, rather than a controller sent from regional HQ.
Project background
The client ran an Indonesia business that files with OJK. The country organisation needed a finance lead who could close the books, file, and answer queries under local rules.
Regional HQ had already posted a controller who knew group accounts, but not the local licensed reporting, and could not sit an authority query alone. Rebadging that person as country finance head would not hold locally.
The search stayed inside Indonesia’s finance and audit market. The seat was a country-organisation head, not another liaison on the regional centre.
Profile
- Indonesia finance, audit, or comparable licensed-institution experience — able to explain OJK filing and the local close.
- Can report to regional or group finance in English, with the books and filings done in Indonesia.
- Will take a country-organisation seat and reporting line, not stay on a regional secondment.
- Group controllers and shared-service profiles with no local licensed reporting were kept off the first list.

About nine weeks to offer
The licensed pool is narrower than a general finance-manager search. The first list went out on business day eight. Interviews, a pay benchmark, and the background check followed. The offer went in about week nine.

Five CVs on the first list, each with a written interview report. The client met two, both able to describe the local filing. One would take the country seat, at a salary inside the benchmark agreed at briefing.
What we took from it
The hire was a local finance lead. The regional controller became the group-accounts contact and no longer answered for the country organisation. Licensed reporting stopped going through an expatriate translation.
Pay was benchmarked as an Indonesia country finance seat, not as a regional-controller package. Keep the expat package and local candidates leave at interview.
For the next brief: write the licence requirement into the kickoff, and accept a short first list. Retitling a regional controller is not a local search.
