In-country employment in Egypt

Egypt is often a manufacturing or commercial seat. Labour Law No. 14 of 2025 now governs private-sector contracts, leave, and termination procedure, alongside social insurance and work-permit rules.

A statutory annual raise applies even if HQ performance ratings say otherwise.

In-country employment vs incorporating

An Egyptian company is the usual long-term employer. In-country employment is for a first seat that should not wait on incorporation.

Onboarding

From briefing to first payday

Social-insurance registration and, for foreign nationals, work-permit timing set the calendar.

  1. 01

    Briefing

Place of work, role, Egyptian vs expatriate, and start date.

  2. 02

    Contract

Written contract under Law No. 14 of 2025: job, pay, hours, and term.

  3. 03

    Insurance

Register the employee; set the insurable wage between the 2026 floor and ceiling.

  4. 04

    First payday

Monthly payroll with social insurance, tax withholding, and raise accrual.

  5. 05

    Convert or close

Move the person onto your Egyptian company, or terminate under the 2025 law's procedure.

Compliance

Five points that change the hire

  1. 01

    New labour law

Law No. 14 of 2025 changed contracts, leave, remote work, resignation, and termination procedure. Do not run 2024 templates.

  2. 02

    Annual raise is statutory

At least 3% of the social-insurance wage, minimum EGP 250 a month. High earners are effectively capped by the insurable-wage ceiling.

  3. 03

    Insurable wage ≠ full CTC

Contributions run on the insured wage between EGP 2,700 and EGP 16,700 in 2026. Pay above the ceiling is not ordinary-contribution base unless another rule applies.

  4. 04

    Minimum wage

Private-sector floor is EGP 7,000 a month. Confirm National Council for Wages updates before you issue a floor-level offer.

  5. 05

    Foreign nationals and localisation

Work permits and Egyptian-national ratios can apply. A business visit is not employment.
